The Chair of Stockton Liberal Democrats, Denis Rigg, explains the process now being undertaken:
Jacquie Bell would like to thank all those who voted Liberal Democrat on May 6th. "We had more votes than in 2005 in a wider field of candidates and in the midst of a tactical voting battle between Labour and the Conservatives. It is interesting that more voters backed parties other than the winner. A sure sign of the need for a fairer voting system.
Last night was a disappointment for the Liberal Democrats. Even though more people voted for us than ever before, even though we had a higher proportion of the vote than ever before, it is of course a source of great regret to me that we have lost some really valued friends and colleagues and we have returned to Parliament with fewer MPs than before.
Stockton Candidates Jacquie Bell (South) and Philip Latham (North) attended a meeting arranged for local candidates with members of the local Muslim community.
Voters living at various places around the Stockton constituencies have been telling us that the Royal Mail has not delivered a Liberal Democrat election leaflet or delivered one for the wrong constituency. I'm sorry that this has happened - I sent the right number of leaflets to the Royal Mail and the Ordnance Survey supplied them with the constituency boundaries.
