Stockton Liberal Democrats Support Fairtrade

1 Mar 2020

Stockton Lib Dems held a pre-conference meeting yesterday in Starbooks Cafe in Stockton. On the middle weekend of Fairtrade Fortnight members were keen to stress that we support Fairtrade. This year Fairtrade Fortnight is again focusing on the plight of cocoa farmers in West Africa who have to survive on significantly less than a living wage. Those who can grow and sell their crop at Fairtrade prices see huge benefits in education, health and basic living standards as a result of the extra payments they get.

Drinking Fairtrade tea and coffee, enjoying a treat of Fairtrade chocolate, and committing to supporting Fairtrade as part of our Liberal Democrat principles enshrined in our constitution: No-one should be enslaved by poverty. As well as enjoying our chocolate we had an excellent discussion on the varied motions due to be debated at our spring conference in York in two weeks' time.
