Stockton Liberal Democrat Group Leader, Maureen Rigg, has welcomed the introduction of a bill to cut down on excessive packaging. Jo Swinson, MP, introduced her bill yesterday into Parliament calling for the establishment of a national body to promote and enforce packaging reduction; to make provision for the disposal of packaging by certain retailers and to establish binding targets for the reduction of packaging. Stockton Liberal Democrats had already supported a motion at their party conference in September on the same matter.

"It's been calculated that every £75 shopping bill includes £10 for packaging" said Maureen Rigg. "This is a triple cost to the shopper - paying for the packaging, paying through taxation for it to be disposed of, and paying through climate change as well."

Stockton Liberal Democrats are calling on Dari Taylor MP and Frank Cook MP to get behind this campaign, sign Early Day Motion 814, and support this bill.
