McCarthy and Stone Appeal Allowed

17 Oct 2006

On October 9th Eaglescliffe councillors and residents received the decision of the planning inspector on the McCarthy & Stone applications to build on the site of Glenrea and the Bungalow in The Avenue. The inspector has allowed both appeals, dismissing all the arguments about probable traffic problems, road safety, the character of the area and the excessive size of the building which were put so eloquently by local residents as well as your councillors.

Yet again an inspector from outside the area applies the policies and guidance in the way that he sees fit and leaves local people to suffer the consequences. Yet again, we have the application of this Government's policies on previously-developed land on a one-size-fits-all basis - policies which apply to the whole of England, which have forced so many blocks of flats on the area, and which Ministers will not alter.
