"Make Our Crossing Safe"

13 Oct 2011

Following complaints from parents about the half barriers at Allen's West level crossing not keeping children away from the trains Alan Lewis met with Stockton Council officers and Network Rail on site to discuss the issue. Network Rail say that it is acceptable on their safety assessment but that in light of new housing proposals they will look at it again. Meanwhile Stockton Council officers have said that they will fill in a gap in a fence and will look at putting a safety gate on the South East corner of the crossing.

BBC Tees did a radio interview with Cllrs Alan Lewis and Maureen Rigg on the subject. Alan said "If this fulfils national standards then it's time the national standards were changed." Maureen and Alan are committed to pushing for better protection for our children.
