Lib Dems announce Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Stockton South
Liberal Democrats in the constituency of Stockton South have elected local businessman Drew Durning as their prospective parliamentary candidate. The 56 year old was selected following a hustings event at Stockton Town Hall on Saturday 17th January and will fight the seat currently held by Conservative MP James Wharton.
Drew lives and works in the constituency where he runs an online business selling organic products. He is married and has two daughters in their early twenties.
He said, "It's a great honour to be chosen to represent my party. We have a fantastic record of achievement in government and great policies that will make society fairer, the economy stronger and the world greener. Getting those messages across will have a significant impact on the May 7th result. I'm really looking forward to meeting the people of Stockton South and hearing their views on our policies."
Nick Webb, Chair of the local party said, "We are delighted that Drew was elected unanimously by Stockton Liberal Democrats. He gave a great speech which put a lot of emphasis on how Lib Dem policies are aimed at helping the less well off. For too long Stockton South has been treated as a political football by the Tories and Labour and now the electorate can count on Drew to fight for them as the election approaches."
The Lib Dems will fight the election on more funding for the NHS than offered by the Conservatives and Labour and raising the tax threshold to £12,500 while continuing to deal with the deficit.
