Labour Let Down Our Young People Again

14 Jan 2016

Why don't Labour want to try to keep their manifesto promises? This week North East Liberal Democrat Lord Shipley moved a motion in the House of Lords to give 16 year olds the right to vote in council elections. Labour Peers didn't even bother to turn up for the vote.

Stockton Lib Dem councillor, Julia Cherrett, said "At 16 people are old enough to get married, to work and to pay taxes. At 17 they can drive a car and fight, even die, for their country. But they're not allowed a say in who their local councillor is, nor their MP or MEP. Is it any wonder that so many of them don't feel that politics is anything to do with them?".

It's clear that Labour have neither the wish nor the determination to stand by the promises they made last year. Only the Liberal Democrats have consistently fought the dangerous and damaging legislation the Tories have been introducing. Only the Liberal Democrats are providing an opposition to the Tories.

Labour are cowering in a corner, letting David Cameron and George Osborne walk all over them.
