Recent news items in & around Eaglescliffe Ward.

1. 1 Langdale Close

Stockton Council have given permission to crown-lift 1 chestnut tree subject to a Tree Preservation Order.

2. 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d South View

Stockton Council have received a planning application to vary condition no. 2 of planning approval 04/2237/FUL (approved plans) to erect railings around flat roof to rear creating a balcony.

3. Yarm Road

a) Stockton Council have received an application to lop 1 lime tree at No. 625.

b) Stockton Council have received a planning application for erection of an external timber bottle serving bar at No. 663 The Blue Bell. Comments by 11-4-07.

4. Newsham

Stockton Council have received a planning application for temporary siting of static caravan in connection with established intelligent horsemanship and livery business at Ryehills Equestrian Services, near Rosecote Farm. Comments by 17-4-07.

5. Aislaby

Stockton Council have received a planning application for 2-storey extension to side, single storey extension to rear with balcony and erection of 2.4m high wrought iron electric gates and brick pillars at Hopewell House.

6. Preston Park

a. Free children's activities will be on offer at the Museum throughout April. As well as a holiday prize draw, egg hunts, colouring and puzzle, kids will be able to take part in:

? WhizKid - Wednesday, 4 - Mad Science, a provider of hands-on science activities, will be presenting airblasting shows and workshops. Kids can make their own hovercraft to take home or enjoy a breezy show about the wonders of air pressure.

11am - 1 hour hover craft workshop

1pm & 2.30 pm - 1/2 hour air pressure show

? WhizKid - Wednesday, 11 - Mad Science will be presenting electrifying shows and workshops.

A 1-hour workshop explores the power of electricity 11am

A hair-rising 1/2 hour show 1p.m. & 2.30pm

? The Battle of Heavenfield - Thursday, 12 - Two Anglo-Saxon warriors have travelled forward in time to give a lively description and demonstration of a battle which took place more than 1,000 years ago. The events runs at 11am, 12 Noon, 2pm and 3pm

? Family Friday - Friday, 13

Join artist Adam Baldwin in the Resource Room to create a railway postcard from a bygone era. 11am - 1pm or 1.30pm - 3.30pm

? Mural Painting - Friday, 6 - Tuesday, 10 and Saturday, 14 - Sunday, 15

The Museum's Winter Gardens will soon be boarded up as restoration work begins. Help artist Dr. Chun-Chao Chiu decorate the protective boards and turn them into an amazing work of art. 11am -1pm or 1.30pm - 3.30pm

Preston Hall Museum is open seven days a week, 10am - 4.30pm.

Usual entry prices apply: £1.30 for adults, 60p for children and concessions. Family tickets are available (2 adults 2 children - £2 and 2 adults 4 children £3) and all tickets are valid for a full year.

7. 7 Butts Lane

There is an appeal to a Planning Inspector against Stockton Council's refusal of an application to fell 1 Scots pine. Representations (preferably in triplicate) need to reach Jim Lynch, Government Office For The North East, Citygate, Newcastle upon Tyne NE1 4WH quoting reference no. GONE/P/W0720/146/07/1, by 24-4-07.

9. Egglescliffe Branch Library

Stockton Library Service is running a craft session for youngsters on Thursday, April 12. To find out more details, call 01642 527959 or visit the library to pick up a leaflet.

10. A66 Surtees Bridge

Over night closures of both carriageways between 19:30 - 06:30 from Monday 2nd - 4th April are scheduled in order to lift out remaining sections of the existing bridge. A signed diversion route will be in place throughout the duration of the works.

11. Bank Holiday 'Bus Services

On Good Friday & Easter Monday all Arriva 'bus services in Eaglescliffe will operate to Sunday timetable. On other days normal service will operate.

12. Eaglescliffe Health Centre

N Tees Primary Care Trust wrote recently, "It is proposed to redevelop on the same site and the project has a provision completion date in late 2008. The redesign of the surgery and

linked PCT accommodation is underway at this time.

13. Preston Farm

Tees Valley Wildlife Trust owns land alongside the R Tees just downstream of Preston Park, currently in agricultural use. The Trust has a plan to create a new nature reserve, including wetland habitats & 6 acres of new woodland. It hopes to start planting trees in the 2007 planting season & will open the area to its members & visitors as soon as practicable.

14. Friends of Tees Heritage Park

This totally independent, non-political organisation was launched on 31-3-07 "to encourage & promote the protection, enhancement & recreational use of the River Tees, its tributaries & adjoining lands, having particular regard for the heritage, landscape & wildlife characteristics of the area & the tranquil, natural environment." 15. Polling Stations

An election for 3 Borough councillors for Eaglescliffe Ward will take place on 3-5-07. Some polling stations have changed since the last elections.

The Links Primary School, Carnoustie Drive, will replace the temporary cabin in Muirfield Road.

Egglescliffe Branch Library, Butterfield Drive, will take voters in the area bounded by Urlay Nook Road, Durham Lane & the Northallerton railway line.

Egglescliffe Parish Hall, Butts Lane, as last time.

A mobile polling station at the grassed area in Lingfield Drive will take voters in Aislaby & Newsham Parishes and the remainder of Egglescliffe Parish.

Preston Primary School, Laurel Road, as before.

There will also be elections for all seats on Egglescliffe & Preston-on-Tees Parish Councils. Voters for Preston PC will go to Preston School. Voters for Egglescliffe PC will go to whichever of the other 4 polling stations above covers their address. There are no parish councils for Newsham & Aislaby Parishes (which are run by their Parish Meeting) or for the unparished areas (chiefly Preston Lane).

16. Egglescliffe Parish Council

Contrary to what is said on p.2 of the Darlington & Stockton Times of 30-3-07, there is no meeting on Thur., 5-4-07.

17. A67

Stockton Council have received a retrospective planning application for the erection of a stable block & storage building at The Garth, Aislaby Grange (not the Aislaby Grange south of Aislaby village). Comments by 19-4-07.
