b. Arriva Service 20 A Stockton Council engineer has written, "I have
approached Arriva regarding the future provision of bus services after
the opening of the Long Newton Interchange. … A meeting to discuss bus
services in the context of the new interchange and the current contract
to support services to the airport expiring in April 2008 … with Arriva
has now been agreed for Monday 7 January 2008. Stockton Council is
aware of issues relating to overcrowding on the 20 Service on parts of
its route, particularly in the morning peak hour and Arriva has
re-allocated one larger bus to the route following representations. As
well as the implications of continuing funding for services to the
airport and the opening of the new interchange, Stockton Council is
mindful of the needs of residents in Hartburn and Elton as well as Long
Newton. The possible impact of planning applications on the demand for
public transport in areas currently served by the Arriva 20 service also
has to be considered. "

a. Avison Ensemble at Preston Hall Museum on Saturday, 26 January will present 'Rebellion!' - Concertos of the North in the Ballroom at 7.30pm. Recently discovered 18th Century music from the Charles Avison workbooks, reveals Avison wrote songs in support of the rebels' cause. The concert programme sets out the two sides of the Jacobite Rebellions. For the Hanoverians, will be Handel and the music of the 1715 and 1745 rebellions. Tickets cost £10, including a glass of wine, available from Stockton Tourist Information Centre on (10642) 528130.

4. Aislaby
a. The planning application for the erection of 1 dwelling house (demolition of existing dwelling) at Meadowcroft has been withdrawn.
b. There is what I thought was a lay-by / passing area just past the western end of Aislaby village. Stockton Council's Asset Technician has just had this reinstated with sub-base to restore it to what he thought was its former state. He has, however, been reliably informed that this is not the case as it used to be the entrance to the field, and after that was closed just grass verge; this was only made to look like a lay-by after the area was used as a compound whilst the re-surfacing scheme was done on Aislaby Road. One of the residents is concerned that this may attract fly tipping & would like this area restored to a grass verge. With the agreement of the Chairman of Aislaby Parish Meeting this will be done.
c. At the request of the Chairman of Aislaby Parish Meeting, Stockton Council will put further bollards on the green to stop unauthorized vehicles from going down to the river bank and their occupants committing anti-social behaviour.
5. A67
Stockton Council planners have advised that the reference to quote to the Planning Inspectorate for 1 Aislaby Grange Bungalows (Please see last Eaglescliffe Ward News) is APP/H0738/A/07/206167/NWF.
6. Durham Lane
A temporary closure of Allen's West Level Crossing was requested, by the contractor, on 8th December 2007. However, owing to an administrative error by Stockton Council officers, no temporary closure notice was progressed for the 8th December 2007 closure. The contractor was unaware of this error & put up site notices of the closure.
7. Meadowfield Drive
Without any warning of the work, late one night before nearby residents (Num. 80-88 (evens)) experienced lumps of wood thrown against their front windows and into their front gardens thrown by a machine on the railway cutting back vegetation. The debris had flown across both public open space and an adopted footpath, both owned by Stockton Council, neither of which, so far as I am aware, had been closed to the public. Fortunately, I have not been told of any injuries. I have reported the complaint to the Council (who are pursuing the contractor for the cost of remedial work) and HM Railway Inspectorate.
8. Yarm Road / Urlay Nook Road junction (Cleveland Bay)
There have been complaints that southbound queues on Urlay Nook Road A67 were much longer than those on Yarm Road A135. A135 received a maximum green traffic light of 35 seconds and A67 received a maximum green of 29 seconds during the evening peak hour. Council engineers' recommended course of action was to reverse the maximums and monitor the situation. The modification was to be carried out on 9-1-08, after the evening peak, during which the respective queues would be observed. The queues will continue to be monitored following the modification to the signal timings, and the bus operator will be requested to provide feedback with respect to any affect on services on Yarm Road. A decision can then be taken as to whether to make the change permanent.
9. Egglescliffe Bank a.k.a. Stoney Bank
There is currently some work underway. This is pruning work to increase visibility in this area prior to a review of the street lighting scheme on the bank. The work is minor pruning which should also have the benefit of improving the form of the trees at the bank footpath.
10. Shed F, Allen's West
Stockton Council planners have refused the application for change of use for a soft-play-based family entertainment centre.
11. Yarm
Northumbrian Water / Balfour Beatty works started in Yarm High Street on 7th January 2008. During this part of the works the main effect will be on loss of parking bays within the High Street, although every effort is being made to keep this to a minimum.
As a result of the above NWL works there is a closure scheduled for West Street, Yarm from its junction with Bridge Street in a southerly direction for a distance of approximately 200metres. The closure is expected to start on 14th January 2008 for a period of 4weeks. Access for residents, pedestrians and emergency services will be maintained at all times throughout the closures.
12. Yarm Road
Northern Gas works at the above location (Blue Bell side) which require a footway closure from 14th January until 16th January in order to repair a gas leak. Advanced signs for pedestrians will be in place throughout the duration of the works.
13. A1044 Leven Bank Road
Scaffolding removal works necessary at the above location in the vicinity of the bridge over the River Leven. Temporary traffic signals are necessary on 20th January 2008, between 8am - 6pm in order to carry out the said works.
14. Orchard Mews (Urlay Nook Road/Durham Lane roundabout)
The advertisement application (07/2641/ADV) was refused by Stockton Council planners & the owners have now been given until 21st January 2008 to remove the posters; otherwise the Council will commence prosecution proceedings at Teesside Magistrates Court.
