Don't Close Thornaby Insolvency Office

8 Jun 2012

Stockton Liberal Democrats have welcomed the intervention by North East Liberal Democrat MEP Fiona Hall on behalf of workers at the Insolvency Office inStockton. Fiona has met with Norman Lamb MP to defend theStocktonoffice and warn of the danger of more job losses.

Under the terms of the current consultation the Stockton Office would close next year and staff be given the opportunity to relocate toNewcastle, with all the associated costs and upheaval.

Speaking after the meeting Fiona said that she would now write to the minister to emphasise the arguments she had made in person.

Councillor Maureen Rigg said "People who work in Thornaby can't be expected to just relocate toNewcastleat the drop of a hat so this move would inevitably lead to job losses. I'm really pleased that Fiona Hall has intervened to try to save these jobs. There must be other ways of making savings without putting people out of work."
