Disabled Car Parking Bay Abuse

On October 19th at their Full Council meeting Stockton Borough Council unanimously supported a motion put by Liberal Democrat Councillor for Eaglescliffe, Alan Lewis, on Disabled Parking Space abuse.

The motion says:

This council deplores the way in which some able bodied drivers abuse parking bays designated for disabled drivers in privately owned car parks such as Teesside Park and smaller shopping centres around the borough especially those in front of catering outlets. The Council calls upon owners of such car parks to do all in their power to ensure that such parking spaces are available for the people who really need them - the holders of blue parking badges.

Cllr Lewis had first hand experience with disabled parking bays when his father, in his latter days, was confined to a wheelchair and many times had to struggle to transfer his father from the car into his wheelchair in a conventional bay because disabled bays were taken up by vehicles not displaying a blue badge.
