Campaigning again on 0844 numbers

1 Sep 2008

After months of campaigning against the NHS using expensive 0844 numbers for patients to call them, local Liberal Democrats were pleased that University Hospital of North Tees had scrapped its premium rate 0844 telephone number they are asking "why are patients still receiving letters showing this number?"

In a letter dated 7th March, Alan Foster, Chief Executive assured Councillor Julia Cherrett that "I will ensure that the local numbers we have re-introduced are prominently displayed".

Julia has just received a change of out patients appointment letter and is advised that if she can't keep it, to telephone 0844 8113000.

Julia says "Maybe we just have different opinions about the definition of "prominently?"

Through this website we want to make people aware that they can contact the hospital at local call costs on 01642 617617?

Julia also calls on hospital bosses once again to make this known to people.
