Baroness Harris of Richmond To Present Awards

On Saturday 17th November Baroness Harris of Richmond will attend Elm Tree Community Centre, Elm Tree Avenue, Stockton on Tees and present certificates of achievement to young people aged 18 - 23 years of age for Manual Handling, Skate Safe, First Aid and Community Futures awards.
Baroness Harris said "This is a fantastic achievement by young people who might normally be considered to be perpetrators of anti social behaviour. The skate boarding project run by Elm Tree Community Centre and funded by the Home Office "Community Action Against Crime" bid has far outreached its targets and deserves to be funded into the future".
Local ward councillors Julia Cherrett and Elliot Kennedy encouraged Elm Tree Community Centre to bid for the funding as a response to the issues raised by boarders and bikers in the local area".
Councillor Julia Cherrett said "I was determined that the mobile skating facility, stuck in a cupboard for so long, was going to be made available to our young people and I am delighted that the equipment is now being put to good use. We listened to the concerns of our young people and provided a service that has far exceeded expectations. I hope it encourages more young people to talk to their local councillors".
