101 number cost concerns
Local Lib Dem Suzanne Fletcher writes
"I was pleased to see the launch of the 101 number for Cleveland Police and neighbouring Police Authorities, there being times when the police need to be contacted in a non emergency when out and about, especially when driving in different areas.
However I did note with concern there was a cost of 15p per call. The cost of this call would not be part of a phone "package" for either land or mobile line that many people have. I would hope that the public continue to be made aware that they can still make contact to Cleveland Police via 326326 (assuming that they can). This number only seems to appear on the Police website as an occasional flash on the "advice and information" page.
There is already confusion in the public's mind about what number to call for community safety issues, and whilst the 101 number is going to be a big help in some circumstances I am sure none of us want people to be put off making calls because they have to pay for each one of them. The burden on those who suffer a lot of anti-social behaviour, being asked to make contact if a witness, for instance, could be high."
