Lib Dem MEP for the North East, Fiona Hall, has reacted with anger over a developer's refusal to assess the flood risk of existing properties in Hurworth Place with the help of a new river model made available for free.

A North East MEP is supporting moves in the European Parliament to designate a year focused on combating violence against women. Liberal Democrat MEP Fiona Hall says the level of violence against women is simply unacceptable.

Small businesses encouraged to consider exporting.

The FSB in the North East is encouraging all small businesses in the North East to consider exporting as a route out of the downturn. A report published by the European Commission on 5 July 2010 has found that approximately 25% of small businesses export or have exported in the past three years. The benefits of exporting, the report shows, include greater job creation and increased innovation within small businesses.

MEPs have rejected proposals by the EU Commission to allow food from cloned animals and their offspring onto the European market. North East Liberal Democrat MEP Fiona Hall is among a majority of MEPs calling for a ban on imported food and semen from cloned animals.

North East MEP Fiona Hall, has welcomed today's vote (7 July 2010) in the European Parliament restricting bankers' bonuses in Europe and seeking to ensure that banks are sitting on stronger capital reserves than before the financial crisis. The Liberal Democrat MEP also heavily criticised UKIP and BNP for voting against the tough new laws.

EURO-MPS GIVE BOAT PASSENGERS NEW RIGHTS .

North East Euro MP Fiona Hall has welcomed last night's vote in the European Parliament to give people travelling by boat more rights, from 2012. The Liberal Democrat MEP says that the new rules will give boat passengers similar rights to those which helped thousands of air passengers during the recent disruption caused by the Icelandic volcano.

Liberal Democrat MEP for the North East, Fiona Hall, has urged the EU Commission to speed up its action on hormone-disrupting chemicals widely found in pesticides but also in ordinary plastic products, including baby bottles and toys.
