2. A66 Longnewton Interchange

Stockton Council engineers' Progress Report as at 26 February 2008

Interserve are still quoting August 2008 for completion but unofficially

the Highways Agency (HA) are pushing to have the gaps closed as soon as

practicable. Stockton Council engineers have been informed provisionally

that it is proposed to open the grade separated junction towards the end

of April.

Local Roads Orders and signs:

· Signing schedule for weight /speed limits completed, weight limit

signing can now be ordered.

· Local network signing schedule to be completed next week, i.e. removal

of airport signing via Eaglescliffe /Yarm and erection of advisory HGV

route signing.

· Letter sent to HA 14 February re wider trunk road airport signing.

3. Yarm Road

a. Eaglescliffe Golf Club, in consultation with Stockton Council

engineers, had proposed to reverse their entrance and exit, to improve

the junction between Yarm Road and The Paddock. The engineers have now

received a letter from the Golf Club indicating that, owing to the

negative publicity, they no longer wish to proceed with the reversal of

access / egress arrangements proposed. A meeting is to be held with the

Golf Club and a representative of residents living in The Paddock on 2

April to discuss other options to overcome the concerns of the latter.

b. Stockton Council's Teenage Pregnancy Support Service is supporting

young mums and parents to be, as 22 young people from Stockton take part

at a celebratory event at the Parkmore Hotel in Eaglescliffe. They have

taken part in LEAP courses (Learn, Educate and Progress) specifically

designed and tailored for them. The courses, funded by the Learning

Skills Council, were developed in consultation with young people and

include: ante natal care, preparation for hospital, labour and pain

management, independent living skills, sexual health awareness, baby

massage, recognising illness in your baby, basic first aid, preparation

for education, employment, budgeting and money management and building

self esteem and confidence.

4. West View Terrace

Residents' concerns about the night-time clearance of vegetation from

both sides of the railway cutting have been taken up with Network Rail.

They have replied that trees within a 5m clearance strip "were removed to

enhance personal security and signal sighting issues along this section

of track." Trees closer to the edge of West View Terrace "were removed

based on the risk assessment … on their position on the embankment, age,

size, age and the potential for falling down and blocking both tracks."

Replying to concerns that the roadside fencing is inadequate now that

vegetation has been cleared, Network Rail replied "the depot are planning

to replace this with new fencing," but no "specific timeframe for this as

yet." Stockton Council engineers are monitoring the subsidence of the

carriageway, which is sheet-piled and so not affected by changes to the

side of the cutting.

5. Teesside High School, The Avenue

6. Aislaby Road

Stockton Council have received a planning application (08/0531/FUL) for

the erection of 1 dwellinghouse (demolition of existing dwelling

Meadowcroft).

7. Durham Tees Valley Airport

Cllrs Alan Lewis & John Fletcher attended at the invitation of Tees

Valley Regeneration the unveiling of Peel Business Parks' plans for

Skylink International Business Park on 250 acres of the S side of the

Airport, capable of accommodating 2 million sq. ft of business space.

Work will start in 2008, to be completed next year, on the infrastructure,

including an access road coming off the A67 at a new roundabout on the

Eaglescliffe side of the railway overbridge.

8. Durham Lane

A new bus stop construction being undertaken by Direct Services requires

two way temporary signals during off peak hours (09:30 - 15:30) from

Wednesday 19th March for approximately 10 days.
