Disabled Parking Bay action

9.47.39pm GMT Mon 10th Mar 2008

Because of his concerns about the abuse of parking spaces for the disabled, Liberal Democrat Eaglescliffe Councillor, Alan Lewis, put a formal question to the last Stockton Council meeting.

He asked what lead the Council could give in tackling this abuse in car parks at supermarkets, shopping parades, hypermarkets and fast food outlets etc that are usually privately owned.

He was encouraged with the response that, as a result of his concerns, Council officers will contact some of these places to ask what plans for better management of disabled bays they intend to employ.

Alan Lewis said "This is a difficult problem, but if the Council and other organisations will work together and learn from each other I am sure that we can make a difference"
