1. Preston Park: the summer show takes place during the day on 4 days from today. ARC in the Park takes place on 3 evenings from today. 2. Egglescliffe CE primary school: the planning application for 27 car parking spaces has been withdrawn.

1st September 2007

1. River Tees

Stockton Council's Arts, Leisure and Culture Select Committee are looking

at issues surrounding river-based leisure facilities, at what can be done

to generate more use and encourage growth for business and identify

levels of current use and how the Borough's residents view the River and

its potential. People can submit their views by contacting Stockton

2. Egglescliffe Youth Club

Among other youth clubs they were asked for their ideas of what they

wanted to do this summer and among the activities they have been trying

their hands at were kayaking, golf, bowling and fishing and also a day

learning boat handling and boat safety skills on the River Tees.

Stockton Council's Youth Service, together with funding from the

Council's Extended Schools Programme, organised the activities. The boat

handling course gave all the young people involved in the trip the chance

to steer the boat as it travelled from Stockton to the Tees Barrage and

then on to Preston Park.

3. Urlay Nook

a. Stockton Council have received an outline planning application for an

industrial estate comprising the erection of B2 & B8 Use Class units &

associated means of access on most of the undeveloped land between the

A67 and the old road. Comments by 12-9-07.

b. The level crossing will be closed to road traffic from 2245 on 4-11-07

to 0500 on 5-11-07 in order that essential track maintenance works may be

carried out safely.

4. Council Houses

a. It is now planned that council houses in Cedar Crescent, Croft, Myrtle, Lime & Laurel Roads, Esk Green, Millfield Close & Meadowfield Drive which do not meet the Government's Decent Standard will be brought up to this by April 2009. Tenants of affected properties are being notified by letter by Tristar Homes Ltd.

b. Officers of Tristar Homes Ltd, accompanied by ward councillors, will

do "walkabouts" on 12-9-07: Preston 09.00am - meeting on Lime Road,

Millfield Estate 10.30am - meeting at the Park on Leven Close. Tenants

who wish to take part should first 'phone 526440, as otherwise times may

be changed.

5. Yarm Road

a. Stockton Council's Planning Committee on 29-8-07 deferred a decision

on No. 690 to a future Committee meeting, which will be preceded by a site visit.

b. A Planning Inspector has dismissed an appeal against Stockton Council planners' refusal of the change of use of Num. 704 & 706 to a hot-food takeaway.

c. Stockton Council has received a revised planning application for the erection of an 82-bed care home & associated means of access, car parking & landscaping on the site of Num. 654-656. Comments by 13-9-07.

6. 'Bus Passes

All who qualify for the new National Bus pass to be issued (to come into

force on 1-4-08) need to apply in person, bringing proof of residency in

the Borough (e.g., recent bill with applicant's address, such as council

tax or utility bill, or driving licence), together with either their

current bus pass or (if they've lost it or not had one before) proof of

age such as a birth certificate or driving licence. Residents of post

code area TS16 should attend at Yarm Community Centre, High Church Wynd,

Yarm, according to their surnames -

7. Train Services - Eaglescliffe & Allen's West

The Saltburn Line Users' Group invite you to "Meet the Operator" on

4-10-07 at 1915 at The Redcar Station Business Centre. A group of senior

managers from Northern Rail will be present to talk about your trains and

services and will address your complaints, comments and/or concerns.

1. Yarm Road

a. Stockton Council's Planning Committee meeting in public at 1330 on

19-9-07 in Stockton Central Library will consider a revised application

for erection of 82-bed care home and associated means of access, car

parking and landscaping at Num. 654 & 656 (Overcomes original refusal).

b. Stockton Council's Planning Committee will make a site visit to No.

690 at 1440 on 18-9-07 & meeting in public at 1330 on 19-9-07 in Stockton

Central Library will consider again the revised application for

residential development comprising 10 new-build apartments and conversion

of existing dwelling into 4 apartments together with associated access,

parking and landscaping.

2. 1 South View

Stockton Council's Planning Committee meeting in public at 1330 on

19-9-07 in Stockton Central Library will consider a revised application

for Residential development for the erection of apartment building

containing 8 no. flats and associated car parking (demolition of existing

dwelling house).

3. Preston Park

a. Guided walk to learn about the wide variety of night-time creatures

living in the Borough, to will help people to understand how night-time

animals, such as bats, owls and moths live, their habits and how they

affect the plants and animals in their habitat - Friday, September 7 from

7pm - 9.30pm., organised by Stockton Council's Countryside and Greenspace

team.

b. Renewable Home Energy Road Show between 10am and 3pm on Sunday, 9

September, with information about wind turbines, solar thermal heating,

building control and rainwater recycling. Local installers and suppliers

will be there to advise and in some cases demonstrate the technology.

Also present will be The Energy Savings Trust to give independent advice

as to the suitability of these products for your home and advice on

grants along with representatives from the Planning department to advise

on the current regulations. Stalls will include solar hot water, solar

photovoltaic (electricity), micro wind turbines, ground-source heat pumps,

air-source heat pumps (heating), bio-mass (heating and hot water),

rainwater harvesting & small appliances (chargers for phones, solar

powered gadgets). The Deputy Mayor will pay a civic visit at 1130.

4. Egglescliffe School

a. The planning application for the erection of 2.4m-high galvanised

steel palisade fencing to create a compound for school minibuses has been

withdrawn.

b. The Anti-Social Behaviour Team will visit year 8 on Oct 30th, Nov 6th

13th 20th 27th, Dec 4th 11th 18th & Year 7 Assembly Nov 20th. In

Assemblies they give an over view of how they deal with ASB and how they

work very closely with the school. In the PSHE/Citizenship Lessons

(Personal Social Heath & Education) they show a DVD and then encourage

discussion on various Anti-Social Behaviour and crimes, and talk about

ASBO 13's and the actions that ASB Team & Police will take if they get

involved in any form of Anti-Social Behaviour, and how it may affect

their parents and their home, also informing them that the Team will be

working closely with the school and anyone that gets a ABC (Acceptable

Behaviour Contract) a copy will go to the school.

5. 131 Burnmoor Drive

The planning application for an extra house has been withdrawn.

14th September 2007

1. 'Bus Services

Stockton High Street will be closed on Saturday 15th September 2007 in

order to hold a large market fair in celebration of the relaunch of

Stockton Market. As a consequence the High Street will be closed between

the two bus turning loops until 19:00 hours. Services 7, 7A & 551 to

Eaglescliffe will use Stand 16 (on the island near Marks & Spencer) & not

call at Lloyds Bank or the Castlegate Centre. Service 20 to Eaglescliffe

will use Stand 14 (on the island near Marks & Spencer) & not call at the

Arriva office or the Castlegate Centre.

2. 661 Yarm Road

Stockton Council have received a planning application for the Extension

and conversion of existing building The River Lounge including raising

height of roof to form 9 apartments and associated car parking. Comments

by 2-10-07.

3. Thornfield Close

Stockton Council planners have approved the erection of a 2.4m-high green

painted palisade fence at Egglescliffe School Playing Fields.

4. The Avenue

Stockton Council planners have approved the revised application for the

replacement of an existing "portable" classroom within the school grounds

at Teesside High School.

5. Muirfield Road

Stockton Council have received a planning application for change of use

from public open space to residential garden of a narrow strip alongside

1 Dalmuir Close. Comments by 28-9-07.

6. Yarm Fair

Yarm High Street will be closed between Bridge Street & Bentley Wynd:

Tuesday 16-10-07 1730 to 2100

Thursday 18-10-07 & Friday 19-10-07 1800 to 2400

Saturday 20-10-07 1100 to 2400

Access to Silver Street & Sainsbury's car park will be maintained on

20-10-07 from Yarm Bridge end.

22nd September 2007

1. Preston Park

Stockton Council's Head of Arts, Leisure & Culture has advised that it is

unlikely that the Master Plan will include a skate-board facility because

insufficient people have asked for it, it would not fit the criteria for

an application for a Lottery grant to restore the Park to its former

glory and the same trustees administer Parks for All grants, so would be

unlikely to favour it. If you feel strongly on this & have not already

written, please send your views to your councilors as soon as possible.

2. Egglescliffe School & Allen's West

Stockton Council will shortly be consulting on its proposals for using

the Government's Building Schools for the Future money which from 2010

onwards could include the transfer of Egglescliffe School to a new

1200-place building on its playing fields at Allen's West & building a

new Egglescliffe sixth form centre on the present school site.

3. A66 Surtees Bridge

There will be a full closure in both directions from 19:30, 24th

September until 06:30, 25th September to enable works on the bridge deck

to be undertaken.

4. 1 South View

On 19-9-07 Stockton Council's Planning Committee postponed to their

meeting on 10-10-07 consideration of the revised application for

residential development for the erection of an apartment building

containing 7 units of accommodation & associated car parking (demolition

of existing dwelling house).

5. Yarm Road

a. On 19-9-07 Stockton Council's Planning Committee refused a revised

application at No. 690 for residential development comprising 10

new-build apartments & conversion of existing dwelling into 4 apartments,

together with associated, access, parking & landscaping.

b. On 19-9-07 Stockton Council's Planning Committee approved a revised

application for the erection of an 82-bed care home & associated means of

access, car parking & landscaping at Num. 654 & 656.

6. A67

Stockton Council planners have refused a revised retrospective

application for the erection of a stable block & storage building at The

Garth, 1 Aislaby Grange Bungalows.

7. Urlay Nook Road

Stockton Council planners have approved the erection of a single-storey

briefing room / store room extension at the Tactical Training Facility.

8. 7 Butts Lane

Stockton Council have received an application to crown-clean 1 Scots pine

tree protected by a Tree Preservation Order. Comments by 8-10-07.

9. Durham Lane

Stockton Council have received a planning application by Marshalls Mono

Ltd for the erection & operation of a mortar mixing plant at Eaglescliffe

Block Works. Comments by 8-10-07.

10. Teesdale Way

Stockton Council's engineers propose to provide a strengthened tarmacadam

surfaced route wide enough for vehicles from Yarm Road to Yarm Viaduct to

cater for existing vehicle access; a reduced footpath from the Viaduct

towards Aislaby Road Pumping Station & thence to Aislaby Road widened &

strengthened to cater for existing vehicle access. Street lighting could

be introduced later if desired, subject to availability of funding.

11. Neighbourhood Watch

Message concerning 14-9-07 - there has been a small trend in crime in

this area:

Chaldron Way - back window forced between 0930 & 2025.

Greenfield Drive - entry gained via front window; reported that the

upstairs ransacked; also silver VW Passat HA53BJO taken from drive

between 1200 & 1430.

12. 131 Burnmoor Drive

Stockton Council have received a revised application for Outline Planning

Permission for the erection of one dwelling house within the existing

property boundary. Comments by 9-10-07.

4th October 2007

1. Preston Park

a. Preston Hall Museum Murder Mystery event will be 'Death's Most Wanted'

written by Paul Flynn and performed by local actors from BOSS Theatre

Company, from Thursday, 25 October until Sunday, 28 October, starting at

7.30pm each evening. It is not suitable for under-12s. Tickets cost £8

each and are available by calling Stockton Tourist Information on (01642)

528130. Some of the performances take place outdoors in the Victorian

Street so wrap up warm!

b. Officers Traffic Group to discuss Traffic Management proposals for a

large-scale gospel meeting taking place one day a week for ten weeks next

year at the Park.

c. New post-natal exercise class 'Fit2Push' takes place in Preston Park

every Friday 11am-12 noon. The class involves brisk walking and

resistance exercises to help tone troublesome areas after giving birth.

Sessions cost £2 and are led by a fully qualified fitness instructor and

a health visitor; however, clearance is needed from health practitioners

before commencing the programme. For more information and to book a

2. Aislaby Road

Stockton Council have received an application for selective crown

reduction to 1 Mount Atlas cedar protected by a Tree Preservation Order

at Greenways.

3. Egglescliffe School

APE Theatre Company will be performing "Pills, Thrills and Automobiles"

to students aged 16+ years in a bid to drive the road safety message home.

The play is a documentary taken from original interviews and has been

approved by the Association of Chief Police Officers. The play, followed

by interactive workshops will be performed on Friday, 5 October (pm).

4. Carnoustie Drive

Primary schools' pupils taking part in of International Walk to School

Week have received daily diaries to record their journey each day and

classes are displaying posters showing the number of times each person

has walked during the week.

Stockton Council's Road Safety Team's new mascot - "Big Foot!" - will

visit The Links Primary School at 0830 on 5-10-07.

5. 1 South View

Meeting at 1330 in public in Stockton Central Library, Stockton Council's

Planning Committee will consider the revised application for residential

development for the erection of apartment building containing 7 units of

accommodation and associated car parking (demolition of existing dwelling

house). Officers recommend approval with conditions.

6. Durham Tees Valley Airport

Meeting at 1330 in public in Stockton Central Library, Stockton Council's

Planning Committee will consider the application for variation of a

planning condition, to allow general employment uses on 20 hectares of

the site. Officers recommend approval.

11th October 2007

1. 1 South View: The planning application to demolish the house and build 7 apartments with associated infrastructure was refused yesterday by Stockton Council's planning committee. The main grounds for refusal were: The provision of satisfactory access, The need for a high standard of landscaping, Not sympathetic to the character of the locality, results in an unacceptable loss of amenity to adjacent land users, Does not incorporate open space for both formal and informal use, nor ensure that residents of the new dwellings would have a satisfactory degree of amenity due to the lack of amenity space and obscure glazing in living rooms.

2. Building Schools for the Future

A booklet about the proposals will be delivered to every household over the next couple of weeks. A public meeting will be held at Egglescliffe Comprehensive School on Thursday 8th November 2007 at 7.30pm with a presentation on the possibilities for this area and the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the issues.

3. Preston Park

a) Slavery here! exhibition is the culmination of a six month project by Tees Valley communities, museums, archives and schools.

Volunteers have researched the hidden history of the slave trading past of Teesside re-discovering the role of Stockton as a centre of sugar refinement. The exhibition will be held at Preston Hall Museum from 13 October until 9 December and will include a new film called 'Manacles and Money' documenting contemporary attitudes to slavery. The slave trade past and present and its link to the Tees Valley will be chronicled along with the role of local campaigners who fought to abolish the abhorrent trade.

b) Wednesday 31 October Halloween walk with a prize on offer for the best fancy dressed. Bring lanterns and torches. You can buy hot beverages and Halloween fare, and can join the spooky walk, which starts at 6pm and is ongoing until 8.45pm. Entry is only available via one of four special Halloween Express buses. Two will pick up from Stockton Town Centre by the Swallow Hotel at 6pm and will run approximately every 20 minutes and the other two from Yarm Town Hall in Yarm High Street. The last pick up will be from 8pm. Tickets, which must be booked in advance, cost £4 (and free for fives and under) are available from the Environment Centre, West Row, Stockton, Preston Hall Museum, Stirling House, Tedder Avenue, Thornaby or call Stockton Council's Events Team on (01642) 527345.

5. Muirfield Road

Stockton Council has received a planning application for erection of 2 dormer bungalows in the grounds of 529 Yarm Road. Comments by 26-10-07.

1. Spatial Planning

Exhibitions will set out the objectives and planned vision for the

Borough up to 2021, part of its Stockton Council's Core Strategy, seeking

comment on the preferred options chosen by the Council, following

consultation which took place last year. They will also show how the

vision for the future will take into consideration nature conservation

across the Borough.

The exhibitions will be held in the following libraries and times:-

Egglescliffe Friday and Saturday 19 and 20 October

Yarm Monday and Tuesday 22 and 23 October

All exhibitions will be manned on one of the two days they are at

2. Eaglescliffe Health Centre

Stockton Council have received a planning application for the erection of

a new Health Centre in Sunningdale Drive (demolition of existing) &

temporary health centre on Muirfield Road during construction of the new

Health Centre. Comments by 5-11-07.

3. Meadowfield Drive

Stockton Council have received a planning application for the change of

use of a small triangle behind No. 28 from public open space to

residential garden. Comments by 6-11-07.

4. Durham Lane

The road over Allen's West Level Crossing will be closed from 2245 on

5-11-07 to 0500 on 6-11-07 in order that essential rail track works be

carried out safely. Kingsmead 'bus top will not be served by the 2322 to

Yarm or the 2342 to Stockton, which will U-turn at Greenfield Drive.

5. Urlay Nook Road

a. The road over Urlay Nook Level Crossing will be closed from 2200 on

24-11-07 to 0800 on 25-11-07 in order that essential rail track works be

carried out safely.

b. Stockton Council engineers propose traffic management measures in

order to regularize traffic speeds & HGV movements in the area following

the opening of the A66 Long Newton interchange in Summer 2008. These

would include a new environmental weight restriction (7.5 tonne MGVW

restrictions, except for access) on Urlay Nook Road between the Tesco &

Hunter's Green roundabouts, to restrict HGV movements along the A67 and

through Yarm High Street. Signage for Durham Tees Valley Airport would

be reviewed to route HGV traffic to the Airport via the A19 & A66.

Further investigations into implementing weight restrictions on Yarm High

Street will take place following the opening of the Longnewton

intersection.

6. Yarm Road

NWL works will involve the use of temporary traffic signals (off-peak):

Ø outside number 646 on the 23rd and 24th October

Ø outside number 664 on the 25th and 26th October

7. Egglescliffe Branch Library

Youngsters can make hats, wands and witches' cats during the craft

sessions as well as listen to the latest of Winnie the Witch and Wilbur's

adventures in Valerie Thomas' new book, Happy Birthday Winnie! on

Thursday October 25 (01642) 527959 3 - 4pm. The sessions are free but

spaces are limited so booking is required. An adult must accompany

children under eight. Contact your local library for more information or

1. Durham Lane

Stockton Council have received a planning application for the renewal of temporary consent for a storage building at Egglescliffe Community Centre.

Comments by 8-11-07.

2. Newsham

Stockton Council planners have approved with conditions a retrospective

application for the installation of 4 6-metre-high lighting poles to

illuminate menage at Ryehills Equestrian Services.

3. Yarm Road

a. Stockton Council planners have received amended Application Site

boundary & layout to car park area and also a transport statement in

connection with the planning application for extension & conversion of

the existing building No. 661 The River Lounge, including raising height

of roof, to form 9 apartments & associated car parking. Comments by

9-11-07.

b. Stockton Council propose to bring in experimental 24 hour waiting

restrictions on the west side of Yarm Road from the N edge of No. 704 to

the corner of the slip road to South View.

4. The Avenue

Stockton Council have received a retrospective planning application for

the erection of single-storey substation/buggy store on the site of The

Bungalow & Glenrae. Comments by 8-11-07.

5. South Urlay Nook Farm

Meeting in Stockton Central Library in public at 1330 on 31-10-07,

Stockton Council Planning Committee will consider the outline application

for industrial estate comprising the erection of B2 and B8 use class

units and associated means of access. Officers report that, as changes

to Local Plan policies for this site have not yet been finalised, the

principle of development is established, but they recommend refusal

planning permission on the grounds that insufficient information has been

provided respect of highways, parking and access arrangements, nature

conservation interests, drainage, public rights of way, lack of Section

106 agreements to secure highway works, and the unacceptable adverse

impact on landscape and visual amenity.

6. River Tees

Connect2 is a national initiative developed by Sustrans, the sustainable

transport charity, which aims to link communities currently separated by

major barriers such as rivers, roads and railways. Stockton Council has

worked with Sustans to develop a Connect2 scheme designed to link Ingleby

Barwick with Eaglescliffe, Thornaby and Yarm via a series of pedestrian

and cycle links, including new bridges across the Rivers Leven and Tees.

Connect2 is on the final shortlist of four projects announced today by

the Big Lottery. TV presenter Lorraine Kelly and former minister Charles

Clarke will lead Sustrans' bid. If successful, Stockton Council stands

to gain £600,000 from the Big Lottery's Living Landmarks fund for a

scheme. Each of the four projects will be the subject of a television

programme on ITV1 in the week commencing 3 December, with Connect2

featured on Tuesday 4 December. Voting will take place online and by

phone vote following the TV shows. Onlne voting will open at 9am on 26

November at www.thepeoples50million.org.uk.

Stockton Council will have a mobile skate board park from 1030 to 1530 on

25-10-07 - free entry; boarders, BMX & rollerblades welcome; skateboards,

pads & helmets provided; fully supervised by trained staff; British Red

Cross first-aiders on site; dependent on weather.

Cllr Maureen Rigg writes about her daily life as a councillor on

confines his new "blog" to his work as Deputy Mayor of Stockton, which

9. Award

Eaglescliffe resident Cllr Suzanne Fletcher, who was Mayor from April

2006 to May 2007, gained "Runner-up" in the Co-operative Bank's "Mayor of

the Year 2006-07" competition.
